A successful initiative to strengthen laparoscopic surgical training was launched on 27th October 2025 at the Department of Surgery, CTR Building, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna.
The program was initiated by Prof. M. D. Lamawansa, with the generous contribution and leadership of Dr. B. Sayanthan, Consultant Paediatric Surgeon and Senior Lecturer in Surgery. The event marked the establishment of the Students’ Laparoscopic Skills Laboratory, equipped with advanced trainer boxes to enhance practical learning.
Prof. B. Balagobi, Head of the Department of Surgery, together with Prof. S. T. Sharma, Dr. M. Sivakumar, Prof. M. D. Lamawansa, Dr P Sivamayuran and Dr. B. Sayanthan, observed the students’ learning process and provided valuable guidance during the session. Medical students enthusiastically participated, gaining their first hands-on experience with minimally invasive surgical techniques in a supportive and inspiring environment.
