Celebrating Sri Lanka Science Day 2025: Advancing Collaboration for Economic Development

The National Research Council (NRC) of Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the National Innovation Agency (NIA) and the National Science and Technology Commission (NASTEC), celebrated Sri Lanka Science Day on 21 November 2025 at the Bandaranaike International Memorial Conference Hall (BMICH) from 9.00 a.m. onwards.

Prof. R. Surenthirakumaran, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, participated as a member of the NRC.

This year’s theme, “Enhance Research and Industry Partnerships for Innovation and Economic Development,” emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration between researchers and industry stakeholders to drive national progress.

The program featured a Research–Industry Consultative Meeting, bringing together selected industry leaders and NRC-funded researchers to discuss national research needs, existing policy instruments, industry value chains, and opportunities for impactful partnerships. Discussions focused on enhancing research translation, promoting multidisciplinary approaches, and aligning Sri Lanka’s science and industry policies with global value-chain demands.

The NRC encourages all stakeholders to continue supporting this national initiative, which aims to build a strong Science, Technology, and Innovation ecosystem to contribute to sustainable economic development.
