
The Presidential Media Awards 2025, held on the 11th at 3:00 p.m. at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, celebrated the outstanding contributions of media professionals in fostering a credible, responsible, and socially engaged media culture. Organized by the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, the event recognized excellence, creativity, and integrity across multiple categories, including Television, Radio, Print, Web, Media Research, and School Media Units.
This year, Viduni Basnayake, a medical graduate from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, was nominated for the Best English Investigative Journalist of the Year, a remarkable achievement for a young professional whose primary training is in medicine. A passionate freelance journalist writing in both English and Sinhala, Viduni began her journalism journey in her third year of medical school. Since then, she has published over 200 full-length articles, courageously addressing issues related to public interest, accountability, and social justice. Her nomination reflects not only her investigative skill and dedication but also her unwavering commitment to using storytelling as a powerful tool for truth, transparency, and meaningful social change.
