Undergraduate Research Program
During 1984 Prof. K. Balasubramaniam introduced the ‘Research in Medical Biochemistry’ for the Medical students. The department still continues with this research program and in between due to some logistic reasons the research activities were suspended. Present and undergraduate research activities carried out at the department of Biochemistry includes the following topics, Oxidative stress,Resistant starch, Metabolic syndrome, Nutrition, Alcoholism, drug addiction, Diabetes mellitus, Glycemic index, Herbal drugs, Glycosylation of proteins, Smoking, Pesticides, Dietary fiber, Urolithiasis, Enzyme production and downstream processing, Metabolic syndrome, etc.
Postgraduate Research Activities
Time to time depending on the interest of the academic staff, different postgraduate and undergraduate research activities were carried out. The present and former postgraduate and undergraduate research activities carried out at the department are presented in Table 1, 2, 3 and 4. Department of Biochemistry has commenced a M.Sc. in Biotechnology course in 1984.
