The framework and processes of Quality Assurance and Accreditation (QAA) currently implemented in the university system in Sri Lanka, envisage reviewing all subjects and institutions in the national universities of Sri Lanka to improve the quality of university education. Internal Quality Assurance Unit was established in the year 2015 under the instruction of University Grants Commission and accelerates its activities under the direction of the Vice-Chancellor. In the year of 2011 Internal Quality Assurance activities was initiated at Faculty of Medicine & became fully functional in 2016.
Internal Quality Assurance is the policies and mechanisms implemented in the University to ensure that it is fulfilling its own purposes and meeting the standards and quality of teaching and learning opportunities, and student support services that apply to higher education in general or to the profession or discipline in particular.
Academic quality describes how well the learning opportunities available to students help them to achieve their award. It is about making sure that appropriate and effective teaching, support, assessment and learning opportunities are provided.
