Undergraduate Research Symposium 2024

The Undergraduate Research Symposium (URS) at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna! This esteemed event, conducted annually, serves as a platform for aspiring young scholars to showcase their research finding to the academic community. The symposium aims to enhance students presentation skills and foster a culture of intellectual exchange. By providing a supportive environment, the symposium empowers participants to engage in thought-provoking discussions and encourage the pursuit of excellence in research. This in inspiring gathering nurtures the next generation of medical researchers and cultivates a passion for scientific exploration.

The 7th URS 2024 is scheduled to be held on 07th March, 2024 at hoover auditorium in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

Undergraduates of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, are invited to submit abstracts for the Undergraduate Research Symposium 2024 (URS2024) to be held on on 07th March, 2024.

Students of the 42nd Batch must submit their Community and Family Medicine research abstracts.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  • The abstract should be submitted by email to ursmed@univ.jfn.ac.lk before 11.59 pm on 18th of September 2024.
  • The abstract should not have been published elsewhere.
  • A scanned copy/image of the duly completed declaration form should be submitted by email as a separate document with the abstract. All authors must sign the declaration form.
  • Correspondence regarding submitted abstracts will be communicated only to the author listed as the corresponding author in the declaration form (the abstract should be submitted by the corresponding author via the email account mentioned in the declaration form).
  • All queries related to submissions must be directed to ursmed@univ.jfn.ac.lk.

FORMAT OF ABSTRACT

  • The abstract should not exceed 300 words (excluding title, authors, affiliations, and keywords).
  • The title should be concise and specific (<25 words)
  • The abstract should be structured into the following sections:

Background and objective(s)
Methods
Results
Conclusions and recommendations

  • Keywords (maximum five) should be listed at the end of the abstract.
  • No references, tables, or figures in the abstract.
  • Submit as a Microsoft Word document (Times New Roman, 12 pt, 1.5 spacing, 1-inch
    margins)

REVIEW PROCESS

  • The abstracts will be screened by the abstract review committee for compliance with guidelines.
  • Each abstract will be forwarded to two reviewers for evaluation.
  • Comments received from the reviewers will be forwarded to the corresponding authors; authors are expected to respond to the reviewers’ comments by the specified deadline.
  • The committee will check the revised abstracts and make the final decision on acceptance.

PUBLICATION AND PRESENTATION

  • Accepted abstracts will be published in the proceedings of URS2024.
  • Presentations will be held in person; there will be no virtual presentation option.
  • The abstract should be presented by a current student of the Faculty of Medicine.
  • If a submitted abstract is not presented, the names of all the authors will be notified to the Faculty Board/Medicine for further action.
