Implementing Zero Plastic Practices in Office Settings in Jaffna

This activity aimed to change attitudes and raise awareness among government office staff

regarding reducing plastic usage and fostering a sustainable, plastic-free environment. Medical students first met with their supervisor, coordinator of the Jaffna Healthy City project, and others to plan the activity.

District Secretariat-Jaffna, Zonal Education Office-Jaffna, Divisional Secretariat-Jaffna, Divisional Secretariat-Nallur, and Regional Director of Health Services-Jaffna were selected as the office settings for implementation of the programme.

The medical students organized and conducted a health promotion seminar to engage participants in discussion about the challenges they might encounter in the zero-plastic pathway. Students also obtained feedback at the end of the session. They selected a volunteer committee for the development of zero plastic measures at each setting and offered practical ideas for implementing the measures. Finally students created the video (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1q-688jKZcvet148tXE-Qbjv50ENiT6of).
