Brief story about the course

The Certificate Course in Semenology (Laboratory Andrology), commencing on 26th of May 2023, targeted medical officers, Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLTs), nursing officers, and allied health professionals keen on andrology offered by Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna.

Its primary goal is to impart fundamental knowledge on subfertility and andrology, enhance skills in seminal fluid analysis and sperm processing for intrauterine insemination (IUI) and assisted reproductive technology(ART), and equip learners to autonomously and ethically practice seminal fluid analysis and sperm processing methods. A total of 16 participants were recruited from various districts in Sri Lanka, with priority given to ensuring at least one individual was recruited from rural areas in Northern Sri Lanka.

 

Awarding ceremony

The certificate awarding ceremony for the Semenology course took place on 8th of December 2023 at 2:00 pm in the Hoover Auditorium, Faculty of Medicine. This event was a collaborative effort between the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the Centre for Open and Distance Learning at the University of Jaffna.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of distinguished individuals, including Prof. S.Srisatkunarajah, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna, and Prof. R.Surenthirakumaran, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Director of Teaching Hospital Jaffna. Notable attendees also included consultants from Teaching Hospital Jaffna, the Director of the Centre for Open and Distance Learning at the University of Jaffna, alongside academic & non-academic staff, medical students, and award winners of the course.

The eagerly anticipated moment of this event finally arrived as the award winners were honoured with the certificates for the Certificate Course in Semenology.

The event was concluded with vote of thanks.
