Jaffna, 21st June 2025 – The CTRB, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, proudly hosted the launch of three groundbreaking books authored by Dr. B. Sayanthan, Consultant Paediatric Surgeon and Senior Lecturer in Surgery. The landmark event, held at the 7th Floor Auditorium of the Clinical Trial and Research Block, marked a significant contribution to Sri Lanka’s medical education landscape—particularly in the field of Paediatric surgery.
The trilogy includes:
- Textbook of Paediatric Surgery
- MCQs and SBAs in Surgery
- Essentials in Common Paediatric Emergencies
These publications, developed with the aim of enriching clinical education and filling a long-standing gap in locally authored surgical texts, were officially launched in the presence of distinguished academics, clinicians, and medical students.
The event was chaired by Professor Srisatkunaraja, Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna, and was graced by several special guests including Professor R. Surenthirakumaran (Dean, Faculty of Medicine), Professor Vasanthi Arasaratnam (Senior Professor of Biochemistry and Former Vice Chancellor), Dr. S. Raviraj (Former Professor of Surgery, Former Dean, and UGC Standing Committee Chairman), and Dr. T. Sathiyamoorthy, Director of Teaching Hospital, Jaffna.
The proceedings commenced with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp and a solemn moment of silent prayer. The event was emceed by Dr. Pragashini Pratheepan, who steered the program with commendable grace and professionalism.
