University of Jaffna Recognized for Public Health Podcasting Initiative

The University of Jaffna – Department of Community and Family Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Sri Lanka, has been honored with a This Is Public Health (TIPH) award. This recognition specifically highlights the department’s project, “Echoing the public health success stories of Sri Lanka through PODCASTING SERIES to enhance the attitudes and skills of public health personnel.”

Dr. P.A.D. Conghe from the Department of Community and Family Medicine is the esteemed TIPH awardee for this initiative. The project’s student ambassador is Sivaganesh Suganja.

This innovative project, a collaboration between the Department of Community and Family Medicine (DCFM), the Sri Lanka Public Health Education Institution Network (LANKAPHEIN), and the South East Asian Public Health Education Institution Network (SEAPHEIN), aims to bolster the university’s regional and global presence in public health. The initiative is built around three core pillars: institutional capacity building, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge exchange across Asia.

Key activities underpinning this ambitious project include the recruitment of a trilingual graduate proficient in Tamil, Sinhala, and English, comprehensive stakeholder consultations, the identification of prominent Sri Lankan public health champions, and the development, production, and dissemination of a podcast series. This series will serve as a vital platform for showcasing public health insights and innovations from Sri Lanka.
