University of Jaffna Medical Team Explores Fertility Care Collaboration with KK Hospital, Singapore

A team of academics, Prof. R. Surenthirakumaran, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, together with Prof. S. Rajendra, Prof. S. Kumaran, Prof. B. Balagobi, and Dr. S. Raguraman from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, recently visited KK Hospital, Singapore, to strengthen fertility care services in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. Dr. T. Sathiyamoorthy, Director of the Teaching Hospital, Jaffna, also participated in the meeting with KK Hospital’s fertility specialists and programme managers.
 
During the visit, the team engaged in productive discussions on collaborative opportunities. The specialists at KK Hospital agreed to provide one year of training for embryologists at their fertility care centre. In addition, the visiting team explored other potential avenues of support for the development of fertility services, including the establishment of the Fertility Unit at the Centre of Excellence for Women’s Care, District General Hospital, Kilinochchi.
 
The team also met with Tamil engineers residing in Singapore to seek further assistance and strengthen community support for the programme.
