Mrs. Ambika Divakalaala Forman and her family members organized a Manitham thematic dance recital event in loving memory of Late Beloved Sundram Divakalaala on 16th of September 2023 at 5.00 pm, Hoover Auditorium, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna. The primary objective of this event was to raise funds for the establishment of Urological Daycare Centre within University Surgical Unit at Teaching Hospital Jaffna.

Prof. S. Srisatkunarajah, Vice Chancellor, University of Jaffna, Prof. R. Surenthirakumaran, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Prof. M. Nirmalan, Vice Dean, University of Manchester Dr.Aru Thirumurugan, founder of Sivapoomi Trust, Prof Mohanathas, Academics, Consultants, non-academics, general public and Students added more significant to this event.

The event commenced with a symbolic and traditional lighting of the oil lamp. Chief Guest, Guest of Honor, Special guest, The President, Medical Students’ Union, diverse dancer lit the oil lamp as it was an integral part of our tradition.

The welcome address for the event was eloquently delivered by Mrs, Ambika Divakalaala Forman, the beloved daughter of the late Sundram Divakalaala. During her speech Mrs, Ambika Divakalaala Forman touched upon her father’s deep involvement in numerus social initiatives, made possible through the support of Sri Lanka’s administrative services.

A mesmerizing classical dance performance, infused with themes of Humanity and social consciousness, captivated the audience throughout the evening. The talented and diverse dancers from the Aru Sri Art theatre enchanted and enraptured the attendees, creating a memorable evening filled with artistic brilliance and thought-provoking messages.

Prof. S. Srisatkunarajah, Vice Chancellor, University of Jaffna, presided over the function as the Chief Guest. In his insightful speech, he expounded on the three essential facets of goodness, namely Charity, Sacrifice, and Devotion

Dr. Aruthirumurugan, founder of Sivapoomi Trust delivered a profound speech during the event. He paid tribute to Sundaram Divakalaala, acknowledging him as a compassionate man deeply rooted in humanitarian values. Dr.Aruthirumurugan also highlighted the significance of the Name “Manitham” which is intricately connected to Sundram Divakalaala’s Legacy and he emphasized the importance of shedding negative thoughts, underscoring the positive impact and enduring goodwill on this day.

Prof.  M. Nirmalan, Vice Dean, University of Manchester shared a brief yet impactful message. During his speech, he eloquently expressed that Mr. Sundram Divakalaala embodied a social institution, carrying the aspirations and hopes of a community in need. He further affirmed the belief that individuals like him serve as guiding lights for society, leaving no doubt about their enduring influence and positive impact.

Prof. R. Surenthirakumaran, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, delivered a brief address during the event. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Family members for their admirable initiative in initiating this impactful project. He also highlighted the potential for significant improvements in kidney-related treatments in the near future as a direct result of establishing this unit.

Dr. B. Balagobi, Consultant Urological Surgeon, University Surgical Unit, Teaching Hospital, Jaffna, delivered address. In his speech, he emphasized the significance and manifold advantaged of having a Daycare Centre within the hospital setting. He lauded the unwavering commitment of Sundram Divakalaala’s family members for their pivotal role in tuning his visionary dream into a tangible reality, thereby providing tremendous service to the community. He mentioned regarding importance and benefits of having a Daycare Centre in hospital setting and further he appreciated Sundram Divakalala’s family members for supporting this great service by making true of his dream.

The event concluded with a mesmerizing Thillana Dance Performance, skillfully executed by a talented ensemble Mr. Dakshath Samaraweera (Architecture), Ms. Chrishani (Accounter), Mr. Thanushan (HSBC bank officer), Ms. Chathurika (Medical student-USJ) and Mr. Sanjeevan, Ms. Dinuja (Dancers of the Aru Sri Art Theatre). Their captivating performance added a brilliant and unforgettable touch to the event’s conclusion, leaving the audience enchanted and deeply appreciative of their artistry.
