On November 9th there was a short visit to the Faculty by Prof. Will Broughton of the Buckinghamshire New University, England. Prof. Broughton is a senior paramedic trainer who was in Sri Lanka, along with five colleagues from the BNU, to train the Emergency Medical Technicians of the 1990 National Emergency Ambulance Service. Jaffna was one of three centres in the country where the training was held.

On behalf of BNU, he donated three important training manikins and several other items used in trauma training, which could be used in the skills lab of the faculty. The value of these items would be close to Rs. 2 million. On hand to receive the donations were the Dean, Prof. R. Surendirakumaran, Dr. S. Raguraman (Head, MEU), Dr. S. Gobisangar (Head, Dept. of Surgery) and Dr.Thayalan Ambalavanar. Prof. Broughton has expressed a willingness to bring more training equipment the next time he comes to Sri Lanka and also to conduct trauma training for healthcare professionals in the north.
